Fun fact: I’ve always loved talking to strangers, and I’ve always been pretty confident in my speech. Before I learned how to talk, I’d call out to strangers from our apartment window, or wave at people from my stroller, and blab away in my made up jibberish. Like, legit have intellectual conversations on my end at the age of 1 or 2.
I guess it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I still love talking to strangers – or that though my Spanish is far from fluent, I love speaking it anyway. It’s probably one of the biggest reasons why I love Latin America. I love speaking Spanish!
So one of my New Year Resolutions was to take Spanish classes and get good. While I love talking to people in my broken Spanish, and love the people who wear a smile and bear it, lol, I would love to be better.
My sister messaged me a link to take an assessment. Caroline, I placed Level 5… can you see what you get placed in? Level 5! I thought, Wow. I mean, she took up to AP Spanish, but when we travel, I’m always doing the talking. So I took the test and.. get ready to laugh, Level 2. HAHAHAH.
I mean, this is just a testament to how far being confident can take you. In my broken ass Level 2 Spanish, I travel through Latin America and strike genuine, real conversations with people. Dang. One, props to me. Two, props to the people. It’s a two way street. 🤣
So while I have pretty decent vocabulary and can construct sentences like a 2-5 year old, I definitely need to work on the language.
Thanks to my sister who always encourages me to just DO IT. I signed up for classes through FLUENT CITY, and am super stoked to get my Spanish on!
